Cider with Evans

Napton Cidery

A Warwickshire based Cidery. They do a very interesting tasting at home package of 5 of their ciders with a video describing each. I think this is a great idea and wish more of the ciderys did this and I'm looking forward to giving this a go in February.

Lost Apple

Medium Dry

Golden, slightly cloudy and carbonated

Very sharp fruity nose, reminds me of baked beans, but not unpleasant.

Quite nice sharp flavour but not overly so. Taste is of fresh bittersharp apples so it's quite refreshing. Not a huge depth of flavour but has a decent lingering aftertaste.

Not bad but could do with a bit more depth. This is another cider made from reclaimed apples so it's well worth trying out. Note the can I had was getting on a bit so more recent vintages might be a bit different

Dry

Golden clear and sparkling

Fruity, slight caramel nose but very fresh.

Very interesting taste. Very dry and quite tannic, but it does have a smoothness as well which is unusual for a high tannin dry cider. A fair amount of oakiness in there but nothing unpleasant. Lots of fruit in there and fruit is what you get in the nice long refreshing aftertaste.

I like this one. For a tannic dry cider it's very easy to drink. If you're like me and heavily tannic ciders is not to your taste then this is a good balance.

Medium

Golden, clear and sparkling.

Quite a mellow nose with a light apple flesh nose with a touch of rum.

Oh nice flavour. Full bodied with a good smooth rounded flavour and plenty of pulpy flavour in there with a touch of caramel. They say lots of tannins on the bottle, but I don't think there's a huge amount in there. Lovely long lingering aftertaste with plenty of apple to the end.

A tad on the sweet side for medium, but very drinkable.

Medium

Light golden, clear and sparkling

Crisp full nose with lots of fresh fruit and that pleasant distinct wild fermentation smell that hints at a sweet alcohol.

Very smooth (they say delicate) flavour but quite a decent amount of fruit in there. Very drinkable with a small amount of tannin. Nice long lingering aftertaste.

Can't say there's a huge amount to this one but it is very drinkable and is a good middle of the range cider, but the profile is a bit too delicate for me.
